Apell - Electronic Music Album

All of the tracks from Apell’s debut album can be downloaded on iTunes.

The debut Apell Album released in 2000 is an eclectic collection of 10 tracks varying in styles which include funk, jazz, chill out electronica and even heavy rock.

This album is unique in that most of the drums were actually recorded live in the studio and then computer edited rather than standard drum loops being used. This gave the album a very distinctive sound and groove.

Favourites from this album were the tracks The Gabbler (featuring GroverJ), Respect for the Jaded, So Where Did You Hide? (featuring vocals by Jane Willison) & Interest Free.

Album Tracks

The Gabbler - Sounds Like: james Brown, Devo

The Gabbler

Crazy funk tune covering 50 topics in under 6 minutes - from hip hop to parking and trucking conventions to Cameron Diaz. Sounds like James Brown being whipped by a schizophrenic Devo. Check out the animated video clip on the Videos page.

Sleeping of Dreaming

Mellow chill out electronica drum and bass music featuring a classic 1991 guitar sample using tremolo with the heavily processed vocal harmonies singing about dreaming of sleeping. Massive Attack drum’n'bass.

Dreaming of Sleeping - Sounds Like: Nightmares on Wax, Amon Tobin, Cornelius

Respect for The Jaded

“Angry, busy, frenetic, industrial drum & bass epic” (Recording Mag) making Apell a 2001 National Youth Weeks RockIT finalist. With way out slide guitar and a screaming baby.

Respect for the Jaded - Sounds Like: The Prodigy, Nine Inch Nails, The Crystal Method
WOFT - Sounds Like: DJ Shadow, Bill Evans, John Laws, Amon Tobin

WOFT

Nostalgic chill out jazz piano piece featuring irate talk back callers and their grievances. Sounds like DJ Shadow mixing the talk back callers from hell in a jazz cocktail bar.

So Where Did You Hide? - Sounds Like: Jamiroquai, Stevie Wonder, Joss Stone

So Where Did You Hide?

“Quirky pop rock” (Computer Music) featuring the soulful vocal talents of Jane Willison. Smooth bass grooves and a tight funky chorus.

Digital Rape

Tongue in cheek Industrial Heavy Rock tune about digital recording.

Digital Rape - Sounds Like: Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein

Interest Free

A beautiful chill out Indian inspired electronica music track featuring sitar samples. Electronica world music.

Intrest Free - Sounds Like: All India Radio, World Music, Amon Tobin
Kazum - Sounds Like: Old School Funk, Retro Funk, Fat Boy Slim

Kazum

Fun up tempo piece of funk music featuring horns, percussion and a bass solo. Old school funk meets Fat Boy Slim big beat.

B'n'R - Sounds Like: Radiohead ala Drum'n'Bass with Saxophones

B’n’R

Dub meets pop with sax solos. The song is about spending too much time on the internet.

560

The original grooving chill out Apell track with obscure vocal samples and ambient slide guitars. Sounds like Massive Attack meets Groove Armada.

560 - Sounds Like: Massive Attack, Groove Armada
